Upcoming redshirt-senior and UTC graduate David Jean-Baptiste was named to the coaches’ All-SoCon Team Tuesday.
The 6-foot-1 guard, who will be relied on heavily for leadership this season, is no stranger to the role
The Miami native was given the Blue Award by UTC Chancellor Steve Angle in April. According to UTC, The Blue Award is presented to students who have displayed excellence in academics and involvement, service, and dedication to the university.
Throughout his career, Jean-Baptiste has truly given his all for the University and has one final year to empty his tank as a graduate student this spring.
Shortly after hearing the news of his preseason recognition, he took to Instagram to post “It’s an honor… all glory to God. It is rewarding to be noticed, but we are all focused on the season and bringing another championship home to Chattanooga.”
As the Mocs possess a talented team, Jean-Baptiste looks to be the lead dog. Since his arrival in 2016, he has improved his statistics all across the board each year…(points, rebounds, assists, and steals.) In his latest campaign, he compiled 12.6 points, 3.9 rebounds, 2.4 assists, and about one steal per game. If he progresses even more, he could be staring down the barrel of a monster season.
Jean-Baptiste and company will open their season on Wednesday Nov. 25 against Bellarmine with a set capacity of 1,000 people due to Covid-19 protocols.
While the capacity may be limited, this team will be one to watch and Mocs fans have a lot to be excited about.
