The Chattanooga Mocs are losing one of their most dominant offensive players to the transfer portal: senior wide receiver Bryce Nunnelly.

This decision from the Tennessee native comes just a few months after achieving a milestone as a Mocs receiver–passing Terrell Owens for 7th place on UTC’s all-time career receptions list–in his only game of the fall against WKU. The Mocs fell short on Oct. 24, but Nunnelly had 28 receiving yards.

Passing Owens isn’t the only highlight of Nunnelly’s career as a Moc.

He has nine career 100-yard receiving games. This ties him with Cos Dematteo (1999-02) for second all time at UTC and is just one shy of the record set by Joe Burke (1977-80).

Before the heartbreaking loss to the Hilltoppers, he boasted at least five catches in 18 of his last 24 games. In addition, he caught a pass in 26-straight games–the fifth-longest streak in UTC history.

In his junior year, Nunnelly was named First Team All SoCon by league coaches and media. In addition, he was named to the 2019 CoSIDA Academic All-America Second Team, the ADA Academic All-Star Team, and was named Academic All SoCon.

He was fourth in the SoCon with 4.8 (57) receptions per game. His 66.2 receiving yards per game placed him third in the conference.

In his sophomore season, he was named First Team All-Southern Conference, Sophomore All-American, and Academic All-SoCon.

That same year, he had 1,237 receiving yards that placed him No. 2 on UTC’s single-season receiving yards list, becoming one of only four to achieve 1,000 receiving yards in a season.

His success follows him into the classroom–where he maintains a 3.81 GPA–as a Mechanical Engineering Major.

Nunnelly’s decision to enter the transfer portal comes in the wake of UTC firing their assistant coach. The decision certainly doesn’t relieve any pressure felt about their upcoming season which begins on Feb. 20.
