Water Main Break at Edge of UTC Campus

By Elizabeth O’Guin, Staff Photographer—

In a UTC alert on Thursday, February 18, students were notified of a water main break at the intersection of Palmetto and Vine streets. The alert said that it was possible the water service of certain buildings on campus could be affected (Engineering, Math, and Computer Science building, the Fine Arts Center, Grote Hall, Lupton Hall and Brock Hall). Since the initial break, the intersection has been blocked off with traffic barriers and surrounded with Tennessee American Water vehicles. Each day, the Tennessee American Water crew members have been working to resolve the issue. There are two deep holes in the street within the intersection, both having been flooded from the leakage and fluctuating weather.

Despite the UTC alert, there has not been interruption to water service on campus, as Tennessee American Water has been avoiding cutting the water service completely. No further information has been shared from the University since the initial alert.
