The UTC Mocs men’s basketball team had no trouble trouncing the Citadel’s bulldogs on Wednesday.
The Mocs had five players score in double figures, all helping lead the team to a great win in the SoCon, 92-69. Ramon Vila, Barcelona, Spain, led the Mocs with 17 points.
The Mocs had a 12 point lead going into the half, and held onto momentum with a half-ending buzzer beating three-point shot by Matt Ryan, Cortlandt Manor, N.Y.
The Mocs were ready to hit the court after halftime. They scored on eight of their first nine possessions to leap miles ahead of the Citadel on the scoreboard.
“It’s nice to see,” head coach Lamont Paris said on the Mocs’ continued confidence in the second half.. “I have a tremendous amount of confidence in these guys anyway…it’s a sign of potential growth.”
The second half was similar to the first; the Mocs did not let up the pressure. They put 40 more points on the scoreboard, while limiting the Bulldogs to only 29 points.
“In the second half, we had such a good defensive effort,” Paris said to emphasize the Mocs’ dominance. “We held them to 29 points in the second half, and that’s with 11 points in the last three minutes with substitutions.”
This was the Mocs’ third straight win in McKenzie Arena; the last two also coming from impressive victories over SoCon opponents.
“There’s definitely more of a comfort level here, anytime you play at home,” A.J. Caldwell, Sarasota, Fla., said. “We practice here every day, so we get a lot of shots up here, so we’re comfortable out there and just take the shots that are open.”
The Mocs will look to continue this type of play for the rest of the season.
