SGA report

Adviser Reports:

• Dean of Students Jim Hicks would like SGA to participate in the Get Caught Reading program during SGA elections.

Hicks would like SGA members to go around and if students are reading any of the newspapers on campus, they will be handed a ticket for a drawing for a big prize.

SGA can remind people to vote during the SGA elections.

Hicks said he supports this program.

Bradley Bell reminded SGA students that there are newspaper stands in every academic building.

• Vice Chancellor of Student Development John Delaney reminded SGA members to participate in Bloodanooga.

Delaney reminded members they could really help someone in  need.

Executive Reports:

• Evan Williams, a sophomore from Jackson, Tenn, said he wants SGA members to help get signatures from students in support of Operation HOPE.

Students were able to sign on Wednesday in the lobby of the University Center and outside Heritage Plaza.
Items Passed:

• SGA voted yes for $1,500 to be allocated from student body projects for the Charles M. Renneisen Leadership scholarship and Richards E. McDougall Leadership scholarship.

This will provide a one-time award of $750 per award.

The passing of this item was given a favorable recommendation by the Student Body Projects Committee.

• SGA voted yes for $5,100 to be allocated from student body projects for dinner for the Leadership Banquet.

The passing of this item was given a favorable recommendation by the Student Body Projects Committee and the treasurer.

• SGA voted yes for Chattanooga Clippers Couponing Club be recognized as an official student organization.

The passing of this item was given a favorable recommendation by the Campus Procedures Committee.

• SGA voted yes for $250 to be allocated from Speakers in order to fund the Lambda Alpha Anthropology Honors Society’s speakers event featuring Heidi Berich from Southern Poverty Law Center.

The event will be March 27 at 5:30. The location has not been designated.

The passing of this item was given a favorable recommendation by the SEID Committee and the treasurer.

• SGA voted yes for $154 to be allocated from speakers to help fund the Theatre and Speech Departments speaking event featuring Eric Blevin.

Blebin will discuss the legacy of coal and nuclear power in an event entitled “Deserts of Cancer.”

The passing of this item was given a favorable recommendation by the SEID Committee and the treasurer.

• SGA voted yes for $700 to be allocated from student body projects for inflatables for SGA week.

The passing of this item was given a favorable recommendation by the student body projects committee.

• SGA voted yes for $350 to be allocated from capital improvements for food for SGA Week.

The passing of this item was given a favorable recommendation by the Campus Observations Committee.

• SGA voted yes for $472.32 to be allocated from the student organization fund for reimbursement to Kappa Alpha Order for travel to a leadership conference in Knoxville, Tenn.

The passing of this item was given a favorable recommendation by the SOFM Committee and the treasurer.

• SGA voted yes for $114.71 to be allocated from student organization fund to reimburse UTC Mock Trial Team for supplies for a competition.

The passing of this item was given a favorable recommendation by the SOFM Committee.
