Chattanooga brings spirit of Mardi Gras to Station Street

Chattanooga may not have a Bourbon Street like New Orleans, but the livelihood and excitement of New Orleans’ Mardi Gras is making its way to Chattanooga’s Station Street on Saturday, Feb. 10.

The event brings the spirit of Mardi Gras with dance parties, beads, masks, fire jugglers, stilt walkers and more.

“It sounds like they’re bringing traditions from another city into Chattanooga, which I think is really cool,” said Chelsey Brown, a senior from Shelbyville. “New Orleans has so much history and fun things and I am excited to get to experience a part of that without having to leave Chattanooga.”

For those 21 and up, there will be a bar crawl starting at 5 p.m., which includes Regan’s Place, Westbound Bar, Hush Lounge, Revelry Room and the American Draft train car. The first 50 guests at each venue will receive complementary beads and masks.

Other activities within the bar crawl include a retro dance party hosted by Regan’s Place, a country request dance party hosted by Westbound Bar and Chattanooga band Over Easy performing on the Revelry Room patio at 6 p.m.

“Station Street is an awesome place that does a lot to try to get people to come down and experience it,” said Kate Madison, a senior from Chattanooga. “This event has so many different things going on that all kinds of people are going to want to go for sure.”

Patrons under 21 can still enjoy this event with the David Bowie tribute concert at 9 p.m., hosted by the Revelry Room. The band Diamond Dogs will be performing featuring HardRockLover.

“It’s great to see David Bowie being remembered in Chattanooga,” said freshmen Gabriel Edward from Nashville. “This tribute seems amazing and I am glad the Revelry Room is hosting this event!”

Those wishing to partake in the bar crawl must purchase a wristband for $10 to have access to all participating venues. Anyone under 21 also must purchase a $10 ticket to attend the David Bowie tribute concert. These can be purchased online at or at the Revelry Room the day of the event.
