With the semester starting back up, it’s time to find a Netflix show to avoid the stressful start of the school year. Without a doubt, I recommend the stand-alone drama Black Mirror.

Black Mirror is a British Sci Fi series that was first created in 2011 with season one that included three different unique episodes. Each episode is a stand-alone situation that consists of a sharp, suspenseful story that explores themes of contemporary technological ways of living. The contemporary technology is supposed to tap into the viewers’ unease with the modern world and the fact that technology has transformed all aspects of our everyday lives.

In 2013, the producers released a very suspenseful season two of Black Mirror that consisted of three episodes. In December of 2014, Netflix purchased the rights to Black Mirror and released a Christmas special episode and it was named “White Christmas.” The description of the White Christmas on Netflix reads, “Three interconnected tales of technology run amok during the Christmas season are told by two men at a remote outpost in a frozen wilderness.”

In 2016, Netflix released a third season of Black Mirror that consisted of six episodes with popular episodes like “Nosedive,” “Playtest” and “Shut Up and Dance.” Season three is when Black Mirror started to become popular on Netflix and really set up the anticipated fourth season.

On Dec. 29, 2017, Netflix released the highly anticipated fourth season of the stand-alone drama that leaves the viewer questionable of the future of technology. Season four consists of six episodes and Netflix describes the season as, “A fantasy spins out of control, all-seeing devices expose dark secrets and a woman flees a ruthless hunter in more tales of technology run wild.” Season four surely guarantees a short packed series of suspense and entertainment that will leave the viewer in pure disbelief.

Black Mirror received a 96 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes with the first two seasons receiving a 100 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

In my opinion, best episode in each season of Black Mirror:

Season One: “The Entire History of You”

Season Two: “White Bear” (White Christmas is a must watch, though)

Season Three: “Shut Up and Dance”

Season Four: “Black Museum”
