The mission of the center is to equip students with prudent knowledge, tools, and techniques that will increase their overall financial literacy, capability, satisfaction and wellness.

Winston Drain, assistant director for financial aid said, “[T]he center provides services and education about loan debt management, personal money management, and comprehensive money management life skills with the purpose of making a positive impact on retention, graduation and default rates.”

The Financial Wellness Center offers various services such as overcoming student debt, money management and budgeting, understanding credit and credit cards, building better credit, saving and investing, avoiding financial pitfalls.

All students can access these services free of charge at any time while they are enrolled at UTC.

Drain said, “[W]e offer money management events, workshops, guest lectures and one-on-one, 100% confidential, financial coaching to UTC students and alumni.”

Peer financial coaches help students one-on-one support with the peace of mind that their conversation is completely confidential.

The coaches focus on the clients at hand and their overall well-being as they relate to their personal financial situation.

Students who may need some help budgeting their money while in college may benefit from a visit to one of the peer financial coaches.

According to drain, some of the topics discussed with a coach may include, but are not limited to, the effects of your financial situation on your anxiety, stress, personal life, academic life, and social life.

Students interested in visiting the Financial Wellness Center can go online and schedule an appointment through MyMocsNet.

It does not matter what type of student seeks the center’s help because they help all students from incoming freshman, undergraduate, graduate, transfer, veteran, etc. The center is willing to help improve the financial wellness of everyone that comes to them.

The center is located in the University Center in room 201.
