Heather Peackham, Chattanooga, Tenn. — This year, UTC welcomed the new sorority Gamma Phi Beta to the Greek system. After last week’s running out the doors, which followed a long recruitment process, the new sisters are showing their support and excitement for their new sisterhood loud, proud and most importantly, in pink.
Abigail Scott, a sophomore from Nashville, Tennessee said, “I’m so excited to be a part of this sorority. Their values are love, labor, learning, and loyalty. I just think that those are so awesome to live by.”
Fellow sister Lizzie Harrison, a sophomore from Memphis, also expressed her excitement for the new opportunities that the sorority offers.
“The support is just super crazy, especially on Facebook,” Harrison said. “There are so many friend requests and new sisters trying to add me all of the time. I think it’s great.”
When asked what events she was most excited about this year, Noelle Pritchard, a sophomore from Norton Ohio said she is looking forward to the opportunity for philanthropy.
“Gamma Phi Beta supports the Building Strong Girls Foundation, which is basically supporting girls who are facing challenges and then helping them succeed,” Pritchard said.
The girls proceeded to explain their upcoming events for this fall and their plans for trying to maintain a good image and a good attitude.
“We are, of course, participating in Homecoming,” Harrison said. “We are going to do the banner painting, the lip sinking, and a tail gait with the Delta Zeta sorority. We will not be doing the step show though because so many others are doing it.”
Although getting a late start can seem to be stressful, the Gamma Phi Beta sisters said they are eager to get started. Homecoming week and continuing the process of acclimating to campus will allow the sorority to find their place at UTC.
