On Sunday, Oct. 20, McKamey Animal Center held their 4th annual Barktoberfest and Meowlloween Party.
The first event was the Dog + Human Costume Contest, sponsored by The Ark Pet Spa & Hotel. These costumes were as simple as a Chef and Taco duo and as elaborate as the characters from Little Red Riding Hood. Winners were chosen by the crowd’s cheers and awarded with pet supplies.
Cats weren’t left out of the day though! The feline friends competed virtually by their owners uploading photos to Facebook and the winners were chosen by amount of likes and shares on their posts.
Trick or treating wasn’t just for kids here, but dogs, too. Children and dogs could walk around and get their own special treats. Pet food and candy donations for this are collected in advance and accepted at the door.
For those 21 and up, Terminal Brewhouse sponsored a Beer Garden. For $25 a ticket you can walk around the garden and taste as many beers as you’d like. This event showcased all of Terminal’s best beers and really brought the party to life.
The day of the event was also the day that Tennessee played Alabama, so there was a Football-Fun Lounge for dogs to run and play while their humans watched the game and enjoyed their beers from the garden. There were also yard games and s’mores around a bonfire.
All proceeds from the event directly benefited the Hurricane Florence victims that are being held at Mckamey’s and other local shelters. Also, adoption specials were the star of the show. Many cats and dogs were adopted with smaller fees and taken to the party, then to their new homes.
