By Editorial, Chattanooga, TN—Three European magazines published topless photos of Kate Middleton last week. The royal couple was staying in a villa in southern France at the time.

Some showed Middleton topless and others with her swimsuit pulled down while her husband applied sunscreen, according to www.nydailynews.com.

The photos ran in three different magazines including Closer, Chi, and the Irish Daily Star.

According to www.nydailynews.com, the publication of the photos in the Irish Daily Star caused editor Michael O’Kane’s suspension. O’Kane was quoted saying “I’m a little taken aback by the reaction in the UK. It only seems to be an issue in the UK because she is your future queen. But from our point of view in Ireland, Kate Middleton is just another of the fantastic line of celebrities.”

Chi Magazine ran a 26-page spread of the photographs under the headline “The Queen is Naked,” according to www.nydailynews.com.

Prince William and Kate Middleton won an injunction Tuesday against Closer, the French magazine that published the photos. If Closer magazine publishes any of the photographs again, it will face fines of $13,000 for every day they’re available, and a fine of $130,000 if it sells them according to www.nydailynews.com.

Closer’s editor was quoted on the NY Daily News website saying “For me, those pictures were not shocking,” she said. “Just a beautiful couple, an in-love couple, in the south of France.”

“Legal proceedings for breach of privacy have been commenced today in France by the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge against the publishers of Closer Magazine France,” the couple declared in a statement according to www.nydailynews.com. Closer Magazine is currently prohibited from publishing any of the photos in the paper or on the internet.

Prince William and Kate Middleton are continuing in their travels as if nothing has happened.

The married couple has a right to privacy under the Fourth Amendment. The Fourth Amendment protects an individual’s reasonable expectation of privacy.

In this case, it is questionable whether or not it was reasonable for the couple to expect privacy in the villa in which they were spending their holiday.

Prince William and Kate Middleton are known worldwide. According to www.washingtonpost.com, Kate Middleton is one of the most photographed women in the world.

Being aware of that, you would think that the royal couple might have been a little more careful in their behaviors outside of their villa.

The fact is, what the couple was doing in the photographs is not abnormal for a married couple. But, the royal couple also isn’t your average couple. They are constantly being photographed and followed.

It is reasonable for the couple to expect privacy, but they also should be extremely cautious of the fact that, like most celebrities, they are being put on a pedestal compared to the rest of society.
