The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga’s Men’s Tennis team swept the weekend series, beating Presbyterin University, University of Birmingham at Alabama and Birmingham Southern. The weekend started off with the Mocs facing off against Presbyterian University on Saturday, winning the match with a final score of 6-1.
UTC’s double header on Sunday in Birmingham included matches against UAB and Birmingham Southern. Chattanooga beat both UAB and Birmingham Southern with a final scores of 5-1 and 9-0.
In the first doubles match on Saturday Chattanooga’s Simon Bustamante, Guayaquil, England and Kerim Hyatt, Charleston, S.C., defeated Presyterbian’s Oscar Alvarez and Daniel Stenger with a final score of 6-4.
In the second doubles match UTC’s Niklas Gerdes, Gestland, Germany and Tomas Rodriguez, Buenos Aires, Argentina defeated Presyterbian Jonathan Bedrard and Teo Cariov with a final score of 6-3.
In the third doubles match Presyterbian Max Benson and Nicholas McKinney defeated Chattanooga’s Jeffrey Dewald, Franklin, Tenn., and Luke Plaisted, Hixson, Tenn., of a final score of 7-5.
In the six singles matches against Presbyterian, the Mocs won five. The winning scores of the 5 matches that the Mocs won a final score of 6-2, 6-2 won by Gerdes defeating Presyterbian Max Benson.
The second singles match that was won by UTC had a final score of 6-3, 6-4 as Rodriguez defeated Presyterbian Daniel Stenger.
UTC’s Dewald defeated Presyterbian J. Castillo Lopez of a score of 6-4,6-1, 6-4 in the third singles match.
The fourth and fifth singles match featured Bustamante winning over Teo Cariov with a final score of 6-4, 6-4. Chattanooga’s Jacob Marshall Bristol, Tenn., defeated Presyterbian Jonathan Bedard in two sets of a final score of 6-3, 7-5.
In the doubles matches against UAB, the Dragons clean swept the Mocs in all three of the doubles matches.
In the final doubleheader of the Men’s Tennis Match for UTC was against Birmingham Southern. The Mocs swept them, winning all three of the doubles matches. In the six singles matches Chattanooga also dominated the Panthers to get the win over Birmingham Southern with a final score of 9-0.
Next opponent for the Men’s Tennis Team is against Belmont University in Nashville, Tennessee on Friday, February 7, 2020.
