The Chattanooga women’s basketball team took down the Buccaneers of ETSU in a hard-fought and thrilling three overtime game in Johnson City Saturday (91-82).
“What a battle from both teams who are hungry for wins,” Chattanooga head coach Katie Burrows said. “That was very evident out there, it was a very physical game. We figured out early on that it was going to be physical.”
The Mocs were boosted to victory with a 9-0 run in the last five minutes of the game. Chattanooga forward Eboni Williams, Hoover, Ala., posted a team-high 25 points and 15 rebounds with a staggering 52 minutes played.
They seemed to be in control in the middle of the third quarter as they found themselves up 45-32. However, ETSU would not go away as they scratched and clawed their way back to tie it up on a lay up with 14 seconds left in regulation.
In the first two over times, the SoCon teams traded leads on multiple occasions with were numerous clutch free throws from both sides to extend the game.
The gritty Chattanooga squad dug deep and controlled the third overtime; outscoring ETSU 13-4.
Chattanooga improves to 5-16 and 4-3 in conference play as they return home to host the UNCG Spartans on Feb. 6., a. 7 p.m. inside McKenzie Arena.
