Caroline Maloy, Chattanooga, Tenn. — The 25th anniversary of the Nightfall summer concert series will start every Friday from May 3 until August 30.
The free, outdoor concert series will be at the River City Stage in Miller Plaza, at the corner of Market Street and Martin Luther King Boulevard.
“This is probably our best lineup yet,” Jonathan Susman, Marketing and Media Director at Chattanooga Presents, said.
This year’s featured act is Forro in the Dark, a New York-based Brazilian party band. In Brazil, forró
(pronounced “faux-HAW”) is a type of music that combines heavy percussion and rhythmic dance music.“Forro” literally means party in Brazilian.
The local opening acts start at 7 p.m. and the headlining acts start at 8 p.m. Festivities typically wrap up around 10 p.m.
One of the nights will be dedicated to UTC and called UTC Night on Aug. 22. Decibella will be the local opening act and Johnnyswim will headline.
“Johnnyswim… they’re a folk soul blues band. It’s a husband and wife team,” Susman said. “The wife is actually the daughter of Donna Summer, big disco lady.”
He also said that UTC Night is a great way to draw students to the event. Students and fans are encouraged to wear blue and gold, and there will be Mocs prizes and giveaways.
Susman also encourages students to attend the other Nightfall concerts besides the UTC night. It is a great way to meet other students and make connections in the Chattanooga community.
The concerts will proceed rain or shine. Children, lawn chairs, and pets are welcome. Parking will be available in the Warehouse Row parking garage, which will open at 6 p.m. every Friday of Nightfall.
To save money and time buying drinks, patrons may purchase a bulk beverage ticket booklet for $80. The booklet includes 20 tickets that may be used for both beer and wine. These tickets are $1 cheaper than the regular tickets. For more information on Nightfall, visit the main website at http://nightfallchattanooga.com.
