Staff Report–Ali Ali, a Sudanese UTC student pursuing his master’s in electrical engineering, was reported missing Thursday, Jan. 8 after he never came home Monday, Jan. 5.
Ali was last seen around the Engineering, Math and Computer Science Building (EMCS) around noon and when he didn’t return, one of his roommates, Walied Hassan, called his brother.
Hassan is also an engineering student studying at UTC from Sudan and knew that when Ali didn’t return home, something was wrong,
Ali’s brother, Hassan Elnour, is a medical resident at the University of Mississippi and came to Chattanooga immediately to help search for his brother.
By U.S. legal definitions, a missing person is defined as a “person 18 years or older whose disappearance is possibly not voluntary, or a child whose whereabouts are unknown to the child’s legal custodian.”
According to the National Crime Information Center, of the 627,911 persons reported missing in 2013, 165,344 of the missing persons were over the age of 21.
