At the beginning of the meeting, BSA President Shelly Gilmore came and encouraged SGA members to come out to their Wild ‘n Out event, which is based off of the show on MTV with the same. Gilmore mentioned that some of the cast member from the actual show are coming to campus for the event, and that students will be able to attend the event for free with their UTC ID.
During a period of Committee Reports, Freshman Senate Advisor Caroline Waldron said that Freshman Senate will be hosting the Hidden Treasures Award event on April 10. The purpose of the event is to recognize UTC staff members who don’t normally get recognized for the work they do on campus.
Government and External Affairs Chair Tucker McClendon said that the mural that his committee has been working to implement on campus is going through a review with the UT System and if it gets accepted, they will hopefully move forward with the project next month.
Also during this meeting, $304.41 was approved to be allocated from the University and Academic Affairs account for the Hidden Treasures event.
During Senate Discussion, Student Athletics Chair Christopher Velasco said that UTC is on probation due to a level two violation of the NCAA regulations. According to Velasco, the probation is stemmed from the fact that some athletes were found to have been receiving extra benefits, although, he didn’t mention which athletes or what kind of extra benefits they were receiving.
