During one of the most hectic times that has ever swept the American nation, UTC sports will not continue over at least the next couple of weeks.
Due to the ongoing threat of the coronavirus disease pandemic, the Southern Conference has suspended all of their athletic competitions until March 30, 2020, at the earliest.
“Our membership feels that it is imperative to protect the health and welfare of our student-athletes, coaches, staff, and fans by suspending athletic competition due to this very serious virus,” Commissioner Jim Schaus said Thursday.
The WNIT, which Mocs’ women’s basketball was set to compete in, has been cancelled.
“We know it is very disappointing to our teams, and we also know everyone is rightly concerned about the health and safety of those involved,” WNIT Executive Director Renee Carlson said. “This decision is about protecting our communities and our nation.”
The Ohio Valley Conference, which the Mocs’ beach volleyball team belongs to, has suspended all athletics and competitions until further notice.
All 2020 Winter and spring championships, including the 2020 wrestling championship that was to include three Mocs’ athletes, has been cancelled per the NCAA.
Lastly, the Chattanooga Fan Fest, set for April 4, 2020, is cancelled.
